Xena and Gabrielle must single-handedly stall the Persian army from reaching Athens. Along the way, Gabrielle is hit with a poisoned arrow. Xena must internally battle with her desire to save Gabrielle and her obligation to stop the Persians. Gabrielle, not fearing death, convinces Xena to stay and fight. But, not to fear, during the big battle, Xena has a few spare moments to find the antidote for the poison coursing through Gabrielle's veins. And, as they say, the rest is history.
Xena: (in response to Gabrielle's daredevil flip with the aid of her trusty staff) "Terrific. Now, can we head to Thessally before you hurt yourself?"
Gabrielle: "No no no. Wait. You see, I've worked out the mechanics -- the speed, the trajectory, and finally, the arc of the spin."
Xena: "Good. What's the point?"
Gabrielle: "Your flip. Basically I've broken it down into its relatively simple steps."
Xena: "Oh yeah? What foot do I start on?"
Gabrielle: "Don't confuse me."Gabrielle: "This time, no staff. Watch."
Xena: "Gabrielle, before I tried the flip without the staff I made 300 attempts with it."
Gabrielle: "Slow learner, huh, Xena? I had that problem with basket weaving."
Xena: "It's the right foot, but I'd rather that you didn't."
Gabrielle: "It's not like it's going to kill me. Let me try it one time, okay? That's all I need. One try ..."
Xena: "Wrong foot."
Gabrielle: "I'm telling you (limp) that my ankle (limp) is fine (limp)."
Xena: "C'mon, let me take a look at it. Don't let pride get in the way. You tried something ... and you failed. It happens."
Gabrielle: "It's nothing serious, Xena ... Ooh! No no no! Ow!"
Xena: "Good thing it's nothing serious."
Gabrielle: "That doesn't hurt!"
Xena: "Already too swollen, huh?"
Gabrielle: "I'll walk it off."Xena: "I'm not going to tell ya that you shouldn't have tried that flip."
Gabrielle: "You'll work it in."Xena: "Gabrielle! Look out! Hit the dirt! (Xena's chakram ricochets off a few trees and miraculously slices Gab's boot right off without even touching the skin)"
Gabrielle: "Why did you do that?"
Xena: "A new theory I'm testing for sprains. Elevation and ice cold water."
Gabrielle: "Yeah, well, I'm not very thirsty."
Xena: "Sit down."Gabrielle: "Now you owe me a nice pair of boots."
Phidippides: "Run for your lives."
Xena: (very un-enthused) "Why? What's going on?"
Phidippides: "A huge army landed two nights ago, and a fleet of tall ships ... foreign ... laid waste to our troops in Marathon. They're headed this way on a force march for Athens."
Xena: "Tall ships. Three masts?"
Phidippides: "Yeah."
Xena: "A double row of oarsmen."
Phidippides: "That's right."
Xena: "Persians."Gabrielle: "Have you fought these guys before?"
Xena: "Gabrielle, over that mountain is the most ruthless army to ever take up weapons. If they reach Athens, Greece is lost."
Gabrielle: "What are we going to do?"
Xena: "Stop them."
